What is Peso?

Peso is a Tanzanian wallet app. Your personal Peso Account lets you store money securely, top up from your mobile wallet and send payments to friends and family. Peso also powers a transparent Public Wallet that everyone can explore in real time.

What is the Public Wallet?

It is a single shared balance that every signed-in user can see, updating live. It is funded by Peso, and its activity — transfers and withdrawals — appears in a public feed inside the app.

Peso Plus members can withdraw from the Public Wallet into their own personal wallet, and transfer from it. It is a shared facility, so the balance goes up and down as people use it, and we cannot promise a particular amount will be there at a particular moment.

What can other people see about me?

Your personal wallet balance is private. Nobody else can see it, and neither can they see your top-ups.

Public Wallet activity — transfers and withdrawals — does appear in the shared feed. Phone numbers there are always masked before they are stored, so your full number is never published. The full details of your own transactions are visible only to you.

What is Peso Plus, and do I need it?

You do not need Peso Plus to use your personal wallet. You need it to transfer and withdraw from the Public Wallet.

Peso Plus includes:

  • Check balance at anytime
  • Unlimited withdrawals
  • Send to people without Peso
  • Real time transaction alerts
What does Peso Plus cost, and does it renew automatically?

TZS 3,000 for 30 days, charged from your personal wallet balance — so top up first.

It does not renew automatically. When the 30 days end it stops unless you buy it again. If you buy it again before it expires, the new 30 days are added to what you have left, so you never lose days you paid for.

How do I top up my wallet?

Open Top Up, enter an amount and confirm on your phone. The money moves from your mobile money account into your personal Peso wallet, where it can pay for Peso Plus or be sent on.

The minimum is TZS 100 and the maximum is TZS 1,000,000 per transaction.

Is my money safe with Peso?

Peso is designed with security in mind. Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted, your records are isolated at the database level so another user cannot read them, and balances can only be changed by our servers — never directly by the app on your phone.

Why do you need my phone number?

It is your account — you sign in with it, and we confirm it is really you by sending a one-time code by SMS. We do not ask for your name, email address or national ID.

If a code does not arrive, wait a moment and request another. SMS can take a little time depending on your network.

How do I control notifications?

In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Notifications. You can switch withdrawals, reminders and re-engagement messages on or off independently. You can also turn off all Peso notifications in your phone's own settings.

How do I close my account?

See the account deletion page. Withdraw any remaining balance first — closing the account ends your access to it.
